Hublot in French means “porthole” and Crocco created the first watch in the history of watchmaking that had a natural rubber band. The authentic look of Hublot watches was made to mirror a ship’s porthole, hence the brand name. The striking rubber design was not only a fashion statement but a brand image. Crocco spent three years researching to create a form-fitting, natural band that adapted to each customer’s unique wrist shape. Over the years, Hublot has become one of the most sought-after watch brands.
In 2016, Hublot replica released its another innovation: the Classic Fusion Berluti line. In honour of Berluti’s 120th anniversary these pieces employed Berluti’s famous Venezia leather for both its strap and its dial. Developed by Olga Berluti, a proud descendent of Alessandro, this exclusive tanning technique needed to be developed into a delicate and complex process before it could be used to craft a watch. For example, all of the moisture had to be removed from the leather before it could be enclosed within the sapphire crystal.
This year, building upon the success of the premiere Berluti timepiece, Hublot introduces the Classic Fusion Chronograph Berluti, a watch that fuses mechanical watchmaking and inimitable patina of Berluti leathers. The technical procedure is even more complex since the watch dial features two subdials — one at three o’clock and one at nine o’clock.
The new Berluti-edition “Classic Fusion Chronograph” has a 45mm case available in two versions: The first edition, the Scritto All Black, features a black ceramic case, with polished and brushed surfaces, matched with a black “engraved” strap and a black leather dial. The second edition, the Scritto King Gold, comes in a warm gold case, with the same polished and brushed surfaces, and paired with a warm tobacco brown strap and leather dial.
The Classic Fusion Chronograph Berluti is powered by the self-winding HUB1143 movement, which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides around 42 hours of power reserve. The movement, assembled from 280 components and 59 jewels, can be admired through the sapphire case-back. The watch is water resistant to 5 ATM (50m). The Classic Fusion Chronograph Berluti Scritto King Gold is priced at $36,700, while the Scritto All Black is $16,700. Each model is a 250-piece limited edition and comes in a “Berluti Bespoke” presentation box including a Berluti wax kit.
